The kangaroo god

Recently I watched a video of some villagers worshipping a kangaroo shaped dustbin in the premises of a temple. The video was posted with lot of LOL smileys. Out of curiosity, I scrolled through the comments. There were two types. Some went like "Hahahaha, how stupid", "this is why idol worship is illogical", "oh god, these uneducated people!". Others were in the defense of the worshippers, for example "don't laugh at them. Because of their illiteracy, they don't realize that it's not a god".

Both types of comments are wrong. If people worshipping kangaroo dustbin is funny to you, you should have a good laugh at your own idea of god. There is nothing logical or literate about worshipping multi-armed, monkey-faced, elephant-faced gods. It is equally absurd to believe that Jesus was resurrected or angels whispered in Mohammed's ears.  Further, literacy has nothing to do with god. No rational education can say with authority what form of god is acceptable. There is no verified, approved or legitimate concept of god. The argument 'they are illiterate so they do not understand that not the kangaroo but the bull inside the temple is to be worshipped' is patronizing and it only reveals a misplaced sense of superiority.

God is based in unconditional faith. You start believing in one concept of god and you keep believing without questioning if it is true or not; because it gives you comfort, a chance to clear your mind, and a sense of bonding. It is natural. There is nothing wrong or stupid in it. The same innocent faith drove the people in that video. Somebody saw this kangaroo, thought that it represented their god, placed their faith in it and started praying. Others followed suit. Those who made a joke out of it failed to understand that their prayers were as pure as anybody else's. The fact that nobody mentioned this in the comments was disappointing and even alarming.
